Back to ForumModern Look!
I have to say I'm super excited about this venture! Everything looks extremely modern and is easy to use. It's brilliant

Thread preview cards do not display the correct user avatar
Thread preview cards are still using legacy avatar detection. Upgrade to the latest copy of this service.
Feature Lock
Just a quick FYI more for me and my wandering brain. But there will be no extra additional major features in this version of threadara.
I'll spend the next few weeks refining, tweaking and adding to what we have, then we hope to have some alpha testing carried out.
In this time I will post detailed guides in Features Spotlight detailing how certain things are done as there might be a learning curve for those used to other platforms.
JS Thread Submission Error
When creating a thread using the quick thread form, the inserted row does not quite display correctly.
Edit to add: refreshing the page fixes this.
Groups: QOL
Some quality of life features for groups.
1) When inviting a user, a confirmation should happen.
2) The logic for public/private/secret isn't quite right. Fix it.
3) Feature / Pin a group to the top of the listing
4) Share threads to groups / groups to threads with high quality embed
5) Assign moderators with customisable permissions
6) Auto replies to threads..?
7) Customisable sidebar for each group for the group admin, with latest, trending, etc widgets available.
I can read the Private Group
I saw that there's a Lifespot group and I can read the messages in there even though it's marked private. I put in a request to join before I realized that I could see in there already.
Notifications
I saw that I had notifications about the Group icon image. I can't remember if I did mark all as read?
Anyway, I wanted to go back to the thread to let you know it worked for me and saw that in the notification icon in the upper right hand corner removed everything...so I went to the left hand sidebar and opened up the Notifications. It turns out that I can't click on the thread to get back to the thread through that Notifications. I had to hunt it down by looking through the forum.
I'm not sure if this is by design?
System locks when I try to add an image to a Group
I wanted to test out the Groups, and created one, then went to add an image and what happened was the image popped up as shown below...see how it's greyed out? I get locked up and can't press Cancel or get out of the page at all.
Add similar threads to the create form
That show up as the thread and/or body is typed.
Feature Spotlight: Groups
Communities thrive when members can self-organize around shared interests. With Social Groups, your users can create, discover, and participate in member-run spaces without any admin intervention.
Create a Group in Seconds.
Any member with permission can spin up a new group with a name, description, and optional rules. Groups get their own dedicated page with a customizable icon and cover image, giving each one a distinct identity.
Three Privacy Levels
Not every community needs to be open to everyone. Groups support three privacy modes:
Public - Anyone can join instantly. Content is visible to all visitors.
Private - Visible in listings, but users must submit a join request. Owners and moderators approve or deny each request.
Secret - Completely hidden from non-members. Users can only join via a direct invitation.
Owners can also set a member capacity limit, and a visual capacity bar shows how full the group is.
Channels for Organized Discussion
Inside each group, owners and moderators can create channels to organize posts by topic: General, Announcements, Off-Topic, or anything that fits. Channels can be reordered with drag-and-drop and deleted when they're no longer needed (posts move back to the default feed automatically).
Each channel can override the group's default permissions, so you can lock an Announcements channel to moderator-only posting while keeping everything else open.
Rich Posts, Replies, and Reactions
Group posts use the same rich editor as the rest of your forum: formatted text, inline images, file attachments (up to 20 per post), and @mentions that fire real-time alerts. Members can reply to posts in threaded conversations and react with emojis.
Owners and moderators can pin important posts to the top of any channel.
Membership Management
Owners have full control over who's in and what they can do:
Invite users directly by username
Approve or deny join requests for private groups (with a count badge so nothing slips through)
Promote active members to Moderator, or demote them back
Remove members who break the rules
Transfer ownership to another member when it's time to hand off the reins
The Members tab sorts everyone by role: Owner first, then Moderators, then Members, each with their join date visible.
Group Discovery
The Browse Groups page gives users multiple ways to find their people:
Featured Groups section at the top, curated by site admins
Category filtering so groups are organized by topic
Privacy filter (Public / Private)
Sort by Newest, Most Members, or Most Active
Keyword search across group names
Each group card shows the cover image, privacy badge, member and post counts, a description preview, and a "NEW" indicator when there's unread activity.
Activity Feed
Members get a dedicated My Feed page that aggregates posts from every group they've joined into a single timeline. A dropdown lets them filter to a specific group, and each post shows a "new" indicator if it arrived after their last visit.
Group content also flows into the site-wide news feed, keeping the broader community aware of group activity.
Per-Group Permissions
Four toggleable permissions give owners fine-grained control over what members can do:
Post - Create new top-level discussions
Reply - Respond to existing posts
Upload - Attach files to posts
React - Add emoji reactions
These can be set at the group level and overridden per channel.
Admin Controls
Site administrators get their own panel for oversight:
Browse and search all groups (including secret ones)
Feature groups to promote them on the discovery page
Delete groups that violate site rules
All admin actions are recorded in the audit log
Similar Threads List
Not sure if there is one yet but an important feature would be a list of similar threads when writing a topic so you don't make a thread that's already been posted about.
GIFs in groups on mobile
Gifs go over the side on mobile in groups.
Profile QOL
User profile cover photos. Gallery and uploadable.
Shrink editor toolbar for small screens.
Signatures.
User Trophies
System to award achievement based trophies to users for content contributions.
Purchasable badges
A monetisation system for badges.
Users can buy badges using payment processors.
Users can gift the badges to others, who can cash them out for their redeem value.
User A buys ROFLMAO badge for 0.99, gifts it to user B - user B can return/redeem it for .90
Users can top up a wallet so they can purchase and gift on the fly directly from content.
Page manager
What do we think?
Custom page nodes, html entry allowed, can choose from various database elements for data.
Maybe create custom databases for things?
Allow comments. Multiple pages tied together with pagination. Etc
Any suggestions?
Move profile comment box to top of profile comments
Given the flow of comments, it just makes sense for the comment box to be at the top of the comments rather than down below, just because it gets a bit much when you have a lot of comments to scroll through.
Feature Spotlight: Conversation Mode
We just shipped something we feel to be quite interesting: Conversation Mode.
Every thread on the forum now has a toggle in the top-right of the post list. One click switches you from the classic chronological view to a fully threaded tree view - where each reply is visually nested beneath the post it was actually responding to.
How it works
In Flat mode (the default), posts appear in time order exactly as they always have. Nothing changes here.
Switch to Conversations mode and the same posts rearrange into a branching tree. Direct replies nest beneath their parent post, indented with a coloured vertical connector line. A small "Replying to @Author" label appears at the top of each nested card so you always know whose post it is responding to β click the name to jump straight to that parent post.
Colour-coded depth lines
Each depth level gets its own accent colour so you can instantly see how deep a branch runs:
Level 1 replies - blue
Level 2 (replies to replies) - purple
Level 3 - green
Level 4 - amber
The lines glow brighter when you hover over a card, making it easy to trace a conversation chain even in a dense thread.
Replying to a specific post
Hover any post and a quote button will appear. Clicking it scrolls you to the reply box and links your new post directly to that one. When someone else switches to Conversations mode they will see your reply nested right under the post you were responding to.
Your preference is remembered
Whichever mode you last used is stored in your browser, so the next time you open any thread it re-activates automatically without you having to toggle again.
A note on very long reply chains...
Posts are indented up to 3 levels. If a conversation goes deeper than that, the overflow replies "surface" to the root level rather than disappearing - you never lose any content, the indentation just resets so threads don't run off the edge of the screen on mobile.
Give it a try on any thread with lots replies. If you run into anything unexpected, please start a bug report.

Has anybody watched The 100 on Amazon prime, what did you think?
